The Representative Office of Finland promotes the bilateral relations between the Government of Finland and the Palestinian Authority. It follows up on the constantly
changing political situation and on the developments regarding the Israeli- Palestinian Peace Process.
The goal of the Peace Process is to achieve an independent, democratic and viable State of Palestine living side by side with the State of Israel. Bilateral politics and active support to the European Union and international organizations are means to accomplish this goal. In order to achieve this objective, it is important to report on the current situation to the Finnish decision makers, as well as to make known the Finnish Government’s stance to the Palestinians. A pre-requirement for this is a wide contact network of the Representative Office of Finland within the Palestinian society as well as with relevant international actors.
In addition to this, the Representative Office of Finland aims at ensuring the sustainability of Finland's development cooperation with the Palestinians. The Representative Office aims to deliver aid efficiently and work for closer local aid coordination according to the Paris Principles of good aid donorship and EU guidelines. In January 2017 Finland assumed the duties of the co-chair in the education sector.
The Representative Office of Finland is also accredited to handle Finland's relations towards Palestinian refugees through United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). Additionally, the Representative Office handles trade and cultural matters.
